Who we are
MarkDowny ("we", "us") provides a web application for writing, sharing, and discussing Markdown-based documents. This policy explains how we handle personal data in connection with the service.
Data we collect
Account and product use. If you create an account, we process the information needed to run the app (for example, email and profile data from your sign-in provider, document content you save, and technical logs typical for a hosted service).
Beta and marketing email (optional). If you join the Beta waitlist on our website, we collect the email address you provide and, if you choose, your name. We use this only to send messages you asked for (Beta updates, launch information, and related product news) unless you withdraw consent or unsubscribe.
Email service provider (Mailchimp)
Marketing and announcement emails for the Beta list are sent using Intuit Mailchimp. When you subscribe, we share your email (and any merge fields we use, such as first name) with Mailchimp to store your subscription and send messages. Mailchimp processes this data on our instructions. See also Mailchimp's privacy information on their site and their list of subprocessors as applicable to your region.
Every marketing email we send through Mailchimp includes an unsubscribe link. You can also contact us to stop these messages (see below).
Legal basis and consent
We add you to the Beta email list only when you tick the consent box on the signup form and submit it. We record the time of that consent in our systems where needed for our records. You may withdraw marketing consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us; that does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Retention
We keep data as long as needed to run the service, meet legal obligations, and maintain marketing lists in line with your choices. Unsubscribed addresses may remain in Mailchimp or our database as "suppressed" so we do not contact you again.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights or ask questions about this policy, contact us at the email below. We will respond within a reasonable time.
